The Rolls‑Royce Story

An enduring icon

When Henry Royce was designing the first Rolls‑Royce, a friend advised him to “turn out a reliable car at a low price”. But Royce had other ideas. He sought to turn out “the best motor car in the world regardless of cost”. More than 100 years later, that same desire for perfection is the driving force behind Rolls‑Royce Motor Cars.

Since 1904, we’ve created instantly recognisable motor cars that have made the marque an icon all over the world.

Our inspiring headquarters

A centre of innovation, our headquarters and manufacturing facility at Goodwood in West Sussex, England, is where we carry out all of our research and development. When we first opened the doors in 2003, we had 200 people working to produce just one Rolls‑Royce each day. Over a decade later, and with the arrival of Ghost and Wraith, the team has grown to 1,400 people. With worldwide demand for our luxurious hand-built motor cars growing, we now produce up to 20 each day.

Our collaborative Art Programme

Contemporary vision, exceptional design, signature levels of craftsmanship and world-class engineering make each Rolls‑Royce not just a motor car, but a work of art. To inspire artists to work outside their usual realm, we founded the Rolls‑Royce Art Programme: a series of talks and commissions, and partnerships between Rolls‑Royce and some of the world’s greatest artists.
