Rankin - Spirit of Ecstasy

The Spirit of Ecstasy, the iconic symbol of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, celebrated her centenary in 2011. To celebrate the occasion, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars commissioned world-renowned British photographer Rankin to create a series of one hundred contemporary images, each one inspired by the Spirit of Ecstasy.

The Project

Rankin was inspired to mark the centenary of this most iconic of figures with the creation of 100 images of the female form - each representing an aspect of the Spirit of Ecstasy.

Themes such as timeless beauty, power, grace and effortless speed. He was also inspired by the sculptural forms, materials and textures of the Spirit of Ecstasy and by the mystique and intrigue that surround her.

Behind the Scenes

"This is one of the biggest projects I have ever taken on, creating 100 unique pieces of art, each embodying the Spirit of Ecstasy." Rankin
