Andreas Thurner

Exterior Designer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars

Andreas Thurner joined the Rolls-Royce design team in 2004. Responsible for the exterior design of the Rolls-Royce Ghost, Thurner and the team's designs have been instrumental in the successful renaissance and establishment of the Rolls-Royce brand.

Inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupery's quote: "If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea", Thurner's approach is that real luxury is dependent on the deep understanding and vision of the entire project team - achieved by a holistic commitment to quality from the inner to the outer. This principle of co-operation is affected by pride and trust - it results in originality, clarity and a timeless quality.

From 2000 to 2004 Thurner studied Transportation Design at the world-renowned Hochschule für Gestaltung in Pforzheim, Germany. After an internship at the BMW Advanced Design Studio in Munich, Thurner designed his degree work: "Spirit of BMW Luxury in the Future" in 2003/04 in partnership with BMW.

Thurner started at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in May 2004, and immediately began work on the Rolls-Royce Ghost, which he followed through all phases into production status.

Thurner's source of inspiration is art. "Painting and drawing on a large scale helps me bring a fresh perspective to my work as a designer."
