Alan SheppardHead of Interior Design, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars
Alan Sheppard is one of the world's leading automotive interior
designers. His work has always reflected his belief in the power of
simplicity in design.
Sheppard was born in England in 1960. He had a keen interest in
art and showed a natural talent from an early age. After winning a
place at the Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School Faculty of Art where he
studied arts and crafts, he graduated with a BA Honours Degree in
Industrial Design / Transportation from Coventry University.
In 1983 Alan joined Volvo where he worked on pioneering
aerodynamic truck concepts. In 1984, he joined the then new
Advanced Design Department at Land-Rover. A series of highly
successful projects saw him promoted to Assistant Chief Interior
Designer in 1999.
Among other groundbreaking projects, Alan was responsible for
the bench-mark interior on the MK3 Range-Rover, which at this time
was under BMW ownership. He became part of the core team at the
inception of 'Project Rolls-Royce' following the marque's
acquisition by BMW in 1998.
Since then, Alan has been an integral part of the Rolls-Royce
design team, acting as Interior Design Projects Leader. His
projects include the Phantom, 100EX, 101EX, Phantom Extended
Wheelbase, Phantom Drophead Coupé and Phantom Coupé, plus the new
Ghost. As well as this, Alan has developed the Bespoke Design
Service at Goodwood.
Sheppard has always created motorcar interiors with a clean,
contemporary elegance and a distinctly individual personality. His
hallmark is to combine ancient crafts and traditions, with the
latest technological and manufacturing techniques.
