How many hides are used for the leather interior of a Phantom? Are the animals bred only for the hides or for other purposes?

Around 18 hides are used to upholster the interior of a Phantom. Bull hides are used as these do not suffer from stretch mark and other blemishes that are naturally found on some cow hides. The leather used is a by-product as they are reared for beef and all hide off-cuts are recycled for use in other industries.

How can I connect my mobile phone to the car?

Mobile phones can be connected to Phantom in two ways. The first is via an adapter that is placed into a cradle located in the front centre console. When a suitable mobile phone is connected in this way, direct control of the phone can be made via the car's telephony systems including use of the voice activated commands (hands free) and direct dialing from the phone's address book. The use of an adapter also connects the phone to an external antenna for improved reception quality, whilst also maintaining a charge on the handset. The second connection method is via Bluetooth™.

Top

Can I connect my Bluetooth™ phone to the car and will it have the same compatibility as an adapter?

Due to the pace of the mobile phone industry and the continual consumer trend of upgrading handsets, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars offer integrated Bluetooth™ functionality for Phantom (not available in Japan or Korea). Whilst some phones are fully approved and will have full compatibility via this connection method, other, non-approved handsets may have only limited compatibility. The connection or ‘pairing’ of a phone via Bluetooth™ is a one time process and is straightforward. The only physical difference between the adapter and Bluetooth™ connection methods are that the Bluetooth™ connection does not utilise the Phantom's external antenna or maintain a charge on the handset. Please note that Bluetooth™ functionality is only available from Model Year 2006 in USA, Canada & Mexico and Model Year 2006 March update for Rest of World (except Japan or Korea).

Please click on download PDF for the lists of phones that have been tested for Phantom.

These are phones that have been rigorously tested so if your phone does not appear on the lists it does not necessarily mean that you cannot use it with the Bluetooth™ functionality in your car. Please contact your local dealer who will be able to test your phone with your car.

Is it possible to connect an external audio device to the Phantom’s Lexicon hi-fi system?

An iPod or other MP3/audio device may be connected to the car's Lexicon Logic 7 audio system via a 3.5mm aux-in socket located in the sidewall of the upper glove compartment (Model Year 2007 onwards). The input device is then selected via ‘AUX’ in the Phantom's ‘Entertainment’ menu. For pre- model year 2008 remote control of an external device connected in this way is not possible; all control commands excluding volume are made via the actual physical device’s interface. From Model Year 2008 a new option, audio integration for iPod is available. This fully integrated solution allows an iPod to be docked in the upper glove compartment and controlled via Phantom’s rotary control knob, with menu, song and artist details displayed on the dashboard's 6.5" screen (in theatre configuration cars, the iPod may also be controlled via the rotary control knob in the rear and the display is duplicated on the 12" monitors). This connection also has the added advantage of maintaining a continual charge on the iPod. Due to the size of case used for this option Rolls-Royce Motor Cars only recommend using the 5th generation iPod onwards with this option. (Not available in Saudi Arabia or Taiwan)
