Marriage

Rolls-Royce marriage

A crucial stage in assembly, this is the point where the car body is precision-joined to the powertrain and chassis.

‘The complex challenge here is to check that everything is joined up and working correctly - the fuel lines, electrics and the suspension, which is also bolted on at this stage.’ Neil Mitchell marriage station team leader.

The joining of body, powertrain and suspension is a dramatic sight. With the pre-assembled powertrain guided directly beneath the body, which is suspended from the assembly line’s overhead monorail, the powertrain and body are then carefully joined in an automated process. Much of the precision work can only be done by hand, and the marriage process takes around an hour and a half to complete. The car’s stainless steel exhaust system is also fitted at this stage.
