We don’t tolerate squeaks or rattles at Rolls-Royce. That’s why our dashboard is built around a skeleton of cast magnesium.
One of the most complex one-piece castings ever used in a car, the magnesium carrier is the ‘rock’ to which the car’s instruments, switches and safety systems are attached.
Weighing just 7kgs, the magnesium carrier is cast in one piece so that there are no parts that can rub together, which helps to eliminate those squeaks and rattles we hate. Precision machined to ensure every hole and fixing is exactly where it should be, skilled technicians fit all the instruments, switches, wiring, air-conditioning vents and SRS airbag systems to the carrier at a sub-assembly station alongside the main assembly line. Once complete, the carrier is then pushed to the assembly line, where it is installed into the waiting car.
