Coach Lining
Mark Court coach line hand-painter: ‘The first time I painted the standard 6m coach line was quite daunting - it’s a long distance to get perfectly straight…’
‘It takes about three hours to paint a single line. I use special brushes made from squirrel and ox hair, and the paint is formulated to go smoothly over the clear top coat.’
For many customers, a hand-painted coach line is the finishing touch to their Rolls-Royce. Traditionally coach lines are painted in the same colour as the car’s interior, but tastes are changing, and many customers are choosing different colours, twin coach lines and even special motifs.
For Mark Court, nothing is too much trouble, as he explains ‘Recently I’ve painted some interesting details for special orders. These include a discreet bunch of grapes for a wine company, insignia for a casino, the R-R logo and some owners’ initials. I’m very happy to work out any design. If a customer wants it, we’ll do it.’
