Like nerves and blood vessels, the wiring harness and fibre-optic loom feed the car’s many complex control systems.
The loom and harness are fitted out of sight, beneath an ingenious double-deck floor, together with special sound-deadening material, the stereo’s sub-woofer speakers and the heating and ventilation systems.
Tipping the scales at some 39kgs, the wiring harness is an impressive and massively complex component. With so many electronic systems to service with power and information, fibre-optic technology is also used, enabling huge amounts of information to pulse around the car, controlling the engine, transmission and safety systems, as well as on-board technology such as the satellite navigation system, in car entertainment system and climate control.
